Why Am I Supporting Local Businesses on The Internet?
Fri Feb 20 2026
The Internet was built to erase borders. As a web developer, I could technically sit at my desk and build websites for a tech startup in Silicon Valley, an e-commerce store in London, England, or a digital nomad in Bali. The tools are the same. The code is the same.
So, when I launched my own digital workshop, people asked me a very logical question: “Why are you limiting yourself? Why focus on supporting local businesses right here in London, Ontario?”
The answer isn’t about technology. It’s about connection, trust, and the kind of impact I want to make after 7 years of writing code.
Here is why my digital compass points locally.
1. The Internet is Crowded. Local is Personal.
Have you ever tried to get customer support from a massive, faceless tech company? You are just a ticket number in a queue.
When you hire an anonymous agency from halfway across the world to build your website, the transaction is often cold. They don’t know the vibe of our community, they don’t understand the specific needs of a Southwestern Ontario customer, and if your website crashes on a busy Friday night, they might be asleep.
I wanted to be a local web partner, not just a vendor. I want to build digital storefronts for the mechanics, the bakers, and the tradespeople I might actually bump into at the grocery store. When you work with someone local, the accountability and the care are naturally higher.
2. Craftsmanship Over Mass Production
The global web development market is often a race to the bottom. Agencies use cookie-cutter templates to churn out hundreds of sites a month.
That’s not how I want to build. I approach web design like a digital craftsman. Every local business has a unique story, and their landing page should reflect that. Whether you are a family-owned restaurant or a local dentist, your website should feel like a hand-crafted extension of your physical storefront, not a generic template.
By focusing locally, I can take the time to actually understand your business, your customers, and build exactly what you need to grow.
3. Strengthening Our Own Backyard
When a local plumber gets a beautifully designed landing page that actually converts visitors into phone calls, their business grows. They hire more local apprentices. They spend more money at other local shops.
The Internet is a powerful tool, but its magic is best used when it brings real, tangible benefits to the physical community we live in. By using my 7 years of experience to help London businesses thrive online, I get to play a small part in keeping our local economy vibrant and strong.
Let’s Build Something Together
I believe that London’s local businesses deserve world-class websites without the agency jargon or the disconnect of outsourcing. You deserve a digital home that works as hard as you do, built by someone who is in your corner.
